Mini Sleeping Beauty Story Tape with Songs

I just picked up there two very cool mini "Story Tape with Songs" booklets, minus the cassette tapes. They look just like the regular, larger 7 inch version, but these are only 5 inches square, and because of the size, they came only with cassettes, not records. The Sleeping Beauty one has a date of 1965 and the Snow White one has a date of 1966. On the inside back cover it lists 12 of these mini "Story Tape with Songs" titles. The first photo shows the size comparison of the mini ones with the regular 7 inch version. The second photo is the back of each. A photo of the inside front page of each. A listing of the other titles in the series. And another photo showing the size comparison.

Two More Sleeping Beauty Records

Sleeping Beauty is my favourite Disney movie and I love collecting any records related to the movie. Yesterday we went for a drive and ended up walking around a old timey main street in a town we had not been before. I was happy to find a record shop and even more happy to see they not only had a kids section, but everything was priced affordably. I come home with a few new Disney records for my collection including these two Sleeping Beauty records.

First is the Official Mickey Mouse Club LP (MM-32) Songs from Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty from 1959, with Darlene Gillespie as Briar Rose.

Next is A Disneyland long-playing record from 1972, Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty (FS-917), with four complete songs;

Also included is the story of Sleeping Beauty with Disneyland story reader Robie Lester.

Neither of these is in great condition, but at just a dollar each, it was a great bargain. And my copy of Songs from Walt' Disney's Sleeping Beauty is a one of a kind as the kid who owned it used a red pen to very neatly colour in the black and white back cover.

The Great Disney Vinyl Collection

Here are three Disney vinyl albums I would love to add to my collection! These are just a few of the awesome designs created by a graphic designer named Guillaume Cote. I'm not able to read his web site, but it looks like this a designer who is a huge Disney fan and has created an entire catalogue of faux Disney vinyl albums. You can check out all of this work on his web site. If only these actually existed!

Sealed 1958 Sleeping Beauty Record and a Picture Book

Yesterday while out grocery shopping, I decided to check out the thrift shop next store, and came home with 7 records, including a sealed copy of Disneyland Records 3911, Walt Disney's Story of Sleeping Beauty, told and sung by Mary Martin. Anytime I find a sealed record in a thrift shop, I have to wonder, is this an actual still sealed, never played copy, or has someone resealed it at some point to make it seem more valuable. If that later is true, then how has it come to be sold for next to nothing in a thrift shop? I would love to open it and find that inside is a scratched up copy of a Village People album or some other album that someone has stuck in side and sealed up. But if it turned out that the album inside was truly the correct album and it mint condition, I would have just busted open a sealed album from 1958. So, in this case I guess I will have to just go with the idea that I have indeed found a sealed copy that is in the exact condition it would have been on the music store shelves back in 1958. What do you think? Have you found sealed albums in thrift shops etc? have you ever opened one that was sealed just for the fun of it? Have you ever sealed one yourself just because you could?

1958 Sleeping Beauty LP with Mail-In Card

I picked up this great looking Sleeping Beauty LP the other day at a local thrift shop for $1. Being that Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Disney movie, I am always thrilled to add a new Sleeping Beauty item to my collection. And this LP is in great shape considering its age and the fact that most kids records you find are pretty beaten up and in pretty bad shape. This one is a gatefold and has the complete 11 page book inside.
I was surprised to see that the LP was inside a paper sleeve, as I have encountered very few kids records that still had their inner sleeves. But what was even better was that there was also a Disneyland Records mail-in postcard inside. The first of its type that I have encountered in the past 20 years of collecting Disney records. The postcard was a questionnaire asking where you bought this album, do you own a Super 8mm movie projector, and do you have a cassette tape player? It also asked if you would like to know more about other Disney merchandise? I would love to know what they would have sent out if you replied "Yes" to that question?
